A Matter between Man and Allah
A lot of hue and cry is being made over Prime Minister Imran Khan not attending Eid prayers. “Well, that is a matter between man and Allah and none should be bothered about it.” That is the counterargument.
First, it is mandatory in the “state of Medina” for the leader or Caliph to offer prayers at a public place along with other “believers.” I have absolutely no objection to saying or not saying prayers but when you have repeatedly talked about establishing a tribalistic and primitive “state of Medina” then you also must know the obligations applicable in the “state of Medina.”
Second, if faith and prayers are a matter between man and Allah why does the state get itself involved in matters of faith and religious practices. Why punishment for eating in public during ramzan is not a matter between man and Allah? Why forcible condemnation of the leader of the Ahmadis in the passport form is not a matter between man and Allah? Why drinking and dancing at a private place not a matter between man and Allah?
Why did Imran Khan had to take an oath in which he had to establish all his Islamic credentials? And please do not forget that only yesterday an Ahmadi mosque has been burnt down in Ghaseetpura, Lyallpur and six Ahmadis have been badly injured as it is not a matter between man and Allah.
And look, every non-Muslim-Hindu, Christian, Parsi while taking oath as a Member of Parliament or as Minister has to solemnly swear the following:
“That I will strive to preserve the Islamic Ideology which is the basis for the creation of Pakistan.”
Is it not a joke? A Sikh or a Buddhist striving to preserve the Islamic ideology?
So when the state is fully involved in determining our faith and what we must practice, how can it be a matter between man and Allah? It is only a matter between man and Allah in states where religion has no role in politics and statecraft. But when religion becomes a part and parcel of state affairs, there is no matter between man and Allah, as every matter between man and Allah becomes a matter between man and state!
